NNPC/ADDAX Petroleum Scholarship 2020-2021 – How to Apply

The Nigerian National Petroleum Commission calls for application for NNPC/ADDAX Petroleum Scholarship from 100 level students in Nigeria’s higher institutions. This scheme presents golden opportunities for students who have little or no source of academic funding. Many students may not know the time of application of the NNPC/ADDAX Petroleum Scholarship, so we are here to walk you down the success path and also provide you with answers to your questions concerning this scholarship.

SIMILAR OPPORTUNITY MTN Nigeria Undergraduate Scholarship 2020

There are two major categories for the Addax Petroleum Development (Nigerian) Limited scholarships. Namely

  • The Host Communities Merit Award 
  • The National Merit  Awards

The Host Communities Merit Award 

This is only open for students from the host communities. They include indigenes of Akwa Ibom, Imo state and Rivers state.

The National Merit  Awards 

This is a national merit scholarship for Nigerian undergraduates open to non-indigenes of the host communities. This means that you can apply for this category if you are not from Imo, Rivers or Akwa Ibom state.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) is the oil corporation through which the federal government of Nigeria regulates and participates in the country’s petroleum industry.

Therefore as a way of contributing to the Nigerian community, introducing the NNPC scholarship for undergraduate was a welcome development that has over the years see intelligent and talented Nigerian students with little or no hope of finishing their higher education go through school.

Worth of Scholarship

The scholarship is worth N 100,000 annually throughout your study year for university students but for polytechnic students, it’s only for the Ordinary National Diploma(2years).

Eligibility for the  NNPC/ADDAX Petroleum Scholarship Awards

To apply for this NNPC / ADDAX Petroleum Scholarship, Candidate must be a

  • Registered full-time undergraduate in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions
  • Certified 100 level student at the time of application (Only students admitted in 2019/2020 academic session)
  • For OND students, the award will be for 2 years only


The following categories of students should not apply:

    • 200 level students and above
    • HND students
    • Current beneficiaries of similar Awards from other Companies and Agencies

1. Before you start this application, ensure you have clearly scanned copies of the following documents

  • Passport photograph with white background not more than 3 months old (450px by 450px not more than 200kb)
  • School ID Card
  • O’level Certificate
  • Admission Letter
  • Birth Certificate
  • Proof of Local Government Area of Origin
  • Letter from Community Leader (Only Applicants for Host Communities Merit Award)
  • JAMB Result

How To Apply for the NNPC/ADDAX  Petroleum Scholarship

Over the years students who apply for this scholarship usually send their applications and documents to a provided email address but that is not the case this year. The method of application has changed and we want you to carefully follow the steps given below.

2. Ensure the documents are named according to what they represent to avoid mixing up documents during upload
3. Ensure you attach the appropriate documents when asked to upload
4. Ensure to provide valid Email and Phone Contact for effective communication

To apply, follow the steps below:

1.    Click on the “Apply Now” tab.


2.    Click on “Register Now” to create an account.

3.    Proceed to your email box to activate your account
4.    Click on to return to Scholarship site
5.    Enter your registered email and password to upload your information.
6.    Enter your personal information, National Identification Number (if available), educational information, other information, and upload required scanned documents.

7.    Ensure the name used in the application matches the names on all documentation in the same order. Upload a sworn affidavit or certificate if otherwise.
8.    Ensure you view all documents after uploading, to eliminate errors during uploading.
9.    When asked to upload a photo, a passport photograph with a white background is preferable.
10.  Recheck application information to avoid errors
11.  Click “Apply Now” to submit information
12.  You will receive an email and an SMS that confirms your application was successful.
13.  Return to, enter your Email and Password to download your profile and proceed to have your Head of Department sign the document.
14.  Upload a scanned copy of the signed profile, this would be used for verification.
15.  If the National Identification Number (NIN) number was not available in step 6, to obtain your National Identification Number (NIN)

  • Visit to register and learn more about the National Identity Number
  • Click “Create Account” and fill in the required  fields
  • Login with Email and Password to complete the form
  • After completion, schedule a date for photo and fingerprint capture
  • Visit any of the capture centres  to complete the registration process and obtain your National Identity Number
  • You can also do your total registration at the NIMC office

16. Return to and update application with National Identification Number (NIN) to ensure completion

It is important to know that Multiple applications could lead to disqualification from the Scholarship Board.
Also, obtaining NIN is not compulsory prior to the completion of your application.

NNPC/ADDAX Petroleum Scholarship Important Notes

  • Applications for the scholarship award without all the credentials stated above will be rejected.
  • Any candidate currently a beneficiary of a Scholarship of any kind is not eligible to apply.
  • Dependants of employees of Addax are not eligible to apply.

NNPC/ADDAX Scholarship Aptitude test venues

Applicants must indicate their preferred centre for the test Centers are

  1. Abuja
  2. Lagos
  3. Owerri
  4. Port Harcourt

NOTE: The aptitude test will take place at designated centers to be communicated to applicants on a later date and applicants are to fully bear the cost of transportation to and from Aptitude test centers.
