ASUU strike: Students set to protest at Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday

Students setting off on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday pass a vote of no confidence against Ngige, Adamu Adamu.

The National Association of Nigerian Students, South West Zone, on Monday announced the commencement of a protest on the Lagos-Shagamu Expressway.

According to the association, the protest was organized as a result of the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The body also noted that it passed a motion of no confidence against the Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige, and his education counterpart, Adamu Adamu.

A statement made available to our correspondent by the Coordinator of NANS, Southwest Zone, Adegboye Olatunji,
read in part, “ASUU has been on strike for over six months, paralyzing academic activities on campus.

Unfortunately, the federal government has been inconsiderate of the feelings of Nigerian students, which shows that the academic pursuit of students is irrelevant.
administration.

“It defies logic for the government to set up new universities but downplay the well-being of the teachers, resulting in the closure of universities stretching over six months with no end in sight.

Two weeks ago, a university lecturer committed suicide due to the government’s failure to prioritize his well-being, leaving behind three children. The question is, what would be the fate of the children he left behind?

“Since the inception of this administration, we have seen how little amount is allocated to the education sector. We saw how the Minister of Labor and his education
peer locked horns with members of ASUU over this protracted strike with no meaningful end in sight.

In all these, the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education is lost.

“It is based on the foregoing that we declare a protest against the protracted ASUU strike which has ultimately affected the progress of Nigerian students for the past six months. And we also pass a motion of no confidence on the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige and Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu.

“The demonstration will be held simultaneously until the strike is resolved. Convergence Point: Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Sagamu Interchange).
