Strike: We are tired, NANS protests, lands Benin-Ore highway

ASUU strike: Students set to protest at Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday

In its fourth day of protest, the National Association of Nigerian Students grounded the Benin-Ore Expressway over the prolonged strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

NANS has embarked on massive protests since Tuesday, rejecting what it described as the “Federal Government’s irresponsibility” towards education, especially in resolving issues with the striking lecturers.

ASUU has been on strike for seven months, since February 14, 2022, with hopes of resumption still dashed for many students as the union and the FG are still at loggerheads over issues of lecturers’ welfare, revival of the university system and payment platform among others.

The PUNCH reported that the Federal Government through the Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige, dragged ASUU to the Industrial Court earlier this week over the strike, alleging that the union refused to call off its strike despite the government intervention.

One of the protesters responded in a video at the protest site on Friday, “End ASUU strike now! We are tired, enough is enough!”
