Brief Info About UNICAL
The University of Calabar, fondly called ‘UNICAL’ by students and staff, was established in 1975 by the Federal Military Government of Nigeria. Initially, it was a Calabar campus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, but it ceased to be a campus after its pronouncement as a Federal University. UNICAL is one of Nigeria’s second-generation federal universities and currently has a Graduate school, ten Faculties, and three Institutes.
The University’s academic programs aim to lay a sound and broad undergraduate foundation upon which further intellectual and professional pursuits can be based at the Graduate school level. Hence, the University offers accredited programs or courses leading to officially recognized degrees, such as bachelor’s, master’s, and postgraduate degrees in several disciplines.
Built to fulfill its motto ‘Knowledge for Service’, placing a great premium on learning and character, UNICAL is currently ranked as Nigeria’s 48th best university.

University of Calabar Admission Requirements
Pre-degree and 100-level students:
- As a prospective candidate, you must have credit passes in at least five (5) SSCE/NECO/ O’level subjects, including English, Mathematics, and three other relevant subjects at no more than two sittings.
- You must also register, sit for and attain the prescribed JAMB cut-off mark for your preferred course. Then you can be eligible to write the entrance examination (Post-UTME).
200 level (Direct entry-level students):
- In addition to having the above requirements, you may also be required to;
- Have a National Diploma, which should come from a recognized institution in Nigeria. Applicants may also be required to have a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in a subject(s) related to the proposed field of study with a minimum of one unit and two (2) passes.

Does UNICAL offer a pharmacy?
Our main goal is to help our students achieve academic success so they can realize their aspirations of becoming pharmacists. Pharmacists may provide services that have risen thanks to the recently introduced Pharm. D degree, particularly in clinical services.
How many Departments are there in UNICAL?

How much does UNICAL acceptance cost?
Pay 30,000.00 on E-transact for the University of Calabar’s postgraduate acceptance fee. Get an electronic transaction printout from the bank. To produce your acceptance fee receipt, enter your Application Form Number and the Confirmation Order Number on the bank’s E-transact printer.
How many years are medicine and surgery at UNICAL?
If admitted through Direct Entry, you will study medicine and surgery for five years at UNICAL. Also, if you were in via JAMB, you would spend six years at UNICAL studying medicine and surgery.
How long is the nursing program at UNICAL?
If accepted through Direct Entry, you would spend four years at UNICAL studying Nursing Science. Also, if admitted via JAMB, you would spend five years at UNICAL studying nursing science.
