Stakeholders at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, including the Vice-Chancellor and other Principal Officers, Provosts, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Professors and Officers at grade 14 and above, convened on Sunday, August 21, 2022, to review the University’s situation.

Stakeholders highlighted the socio-economic repercussions of the current strike action by the University’s staff unions on other stakeholders (parents, students, alumni and staff), as well as the parents’ appeal. It was also said that the strike has a negative impact not only on the students, but also on the University. Here are some examples:

  • excessive extension of the academic calendar and student accommodation on campus;
  • a low level of support for candidates seeking admission to the University;
  • Staff’s inability to meet their financial obligations;
  • inability to pay employees’ salaries, among other things.

Participants in the meeting discussed the issue in detail and determined that in the interest of our teeming student population, their parents and the University’s survival, it has become necessary for all staff members currently on strike in the University to resume normal official activities. .

As a result, the stakeholders unanimously agreed that the University Management should reopen the university as soon as possible to resume academic activities.

Consequently, all newly admitted students must return to campus for the 2021/2022 academic session on Monday, August 29, 2022for screening, registration and orientation.
